The websites I am sharing in this post are sites that pay you weekly for transcribing.

The sites are similar, and working for more than one will give you more chances to earn more money. Each site approval process and working opportunity might be different.

I have stated in my posts there are many ways to make money online, and this is just one of them.

Rev.com was started in 2010 by 3. MIT students: It has grown to 72,000 and is growing freelancers.

The Rev is a popular website that helps people get their audio and video content converted to text.

They offer transcription, subtitle, and captioning services and charge by the minute.

There are a few ways to make money with Rev as a freelancer. Two of the most common are becoming a transcriptionist or a captioner.

On the homepage, you will see that businesses are paying around $1 per audio minute for transcription and captions and more than $1 per audio minute for subtitles.

What Are Rev’s Pay Rates?

Like most transcription jobs, Rev pays freelancers per audio minute. Transcription projects pay anywhere from $0.30 to $1.10 per audio or video minute.

So this means if you transcribe a 25-minute video file, you’ll earn anywhere from $7.50-$27.50 for this project.

One important note: Rev pays per audio or video minute, not per minute worked. It will likely take you many minutes to transcribe one minute of audio.

To become a transcriber, at the bottom of the homepage, click ‘Become A Freelancer’ on the signup page, and fill out your name, email, and the position you want to apply for.

It is also mentioned on the website that you get paid weekly, and they are always on time and dependable.

The requirements of a transcriptionist are:

Listen to the audio/video
Accurately type what is being said
Label speakers

You will be paid $0.36-$0.65 per audio or video minute.

To be a captioner, you are required to:

Watch the video
Accurately type what is being said
Convey the sounds
Sync typed audio with video

You will be paid about $0.45-$0.75 per audio or video minute.

Rev has also been featured on and talked about famous news sites such as Forbes, so you know it is a legitimate business.

TranscribeMe is another website that pays you to type; their website is found at transcribeme.com.

Transcription is listening to an audio file and typing what you hear. After completing it, you have a text document with the same content as the audio file.

It sounds pretty simple, but it is much more challenging. It would help if you could deal with accents, people who mumble, background noise, and researching terms you don’t understand.

To join on their webpage, scroll down and look for ‘Become A Transcriptionist’ or, on the top right corner, ‘Join As Transcriptionist.’ Clicking on the option will take you to the signup page.

On the application form, you have to give basic information such as languages you know, etc.

There are a few main advantages of using TranscribeMe!:

Not Time-Consuming: They have concise interviews; it’s not like you only have to do long videos or audio.

Find Work: You will not have to look for work; they will come to you.
Flexibility: You will get to work whenever you want and make your schedule. Also, work as much or as little as you like. There is no maximum or minimum working hour requirement.
Worldwide: You can sign up anywhere around the world.
Skills: The only skill you need to work on is English and a decent typing speed.
Experience: You do not need prior experience to work for them.

You need Google Chrome, a reliable computer to start transcribing with them, and a stable internet connection.

How Much Can You Earn?

Transcribe AD—states you can earn $15 – $22 per audio hour. When starting, you will make $15 per audio hour.

The average monthly earnings on the platform are $250, and the top earners reportedly earn up to $2,200 monthly. You can earn more if you have a medical or legal transcription background.

This sounds great. Many of us would like this to start, but I understand it is not as good as it sounds, at least at first.

One hour of audio can take four or five hours to transcribe. You will work for only $4 or $5 per hour!

Here are my thoughts

Transcribe Me is a legitimate company; it is not a scam; you can make money. It may not be an amount to be excited about, but you will be paid.

Working as a freelancer is good. You make your schedule, and you can work from home.

Remember that you may not get a task to complete all the time you need one, and the reviews are a mixed bag.

There are many other ways to make money online.

However, success will not happen overnight; whatever area of making money online will take some time.
