Are you retiring with no money saved?

In an article written by Elyssa Kirkham /Gobankrates and published in the online magazine Money, she states that 56% of all Americans have $0 saved for retirement.

Unfortunately, for many of us, saving for retirement is not an area where our attention is focused; because of the necessity of meeting our daily financial demands, which is a struggle, the thoughts never seem to go towards retirement savings.

There are many financial  obstacles that the majority of us face; some of these are credit card debt, student loan debt, low wages, the need to save for a child’s college education, and the list never ends; all of these things can put a strain on our budgets, they don’t necessarily make it impossible to save for retirement.” (start  your own business for free)

Most of us are falling short of the savings required for a comfortable retirement, and that is if we are saving at all.

Not Earning Enough

According to  Kristen Bonner, GoBankingRates’ research led to this survey. Said  The most common responses to the question of what people have saved for retirement across all age groups are “I don’t have retirement savings” and “less than $10K,” breaking down as follows:

• One-third of Americans report they have no retirement savings.
• 23% have less than $10,000 saved.

This lack of savings could indicate many issues facing individuals just to get started on retirement planning.

I think this is mainly due to a lack of education on the importance of retirement savings, and when we are young, the thought of retirement seems to be a long way off, so there is time for salvation.

As well as the constant changing of jobs, any 401k or 403b never gets too mature to earn employers matching the input, and I think it will get even worse as most companies are employing people on a contract basis.

So I strongly suggest that those of us approaching retirement, or even younger, start a saving program, and I recommend that you find an additional source of income.

One business venture I would recommend is online marketing, and this can be done from home or anywhere; you only need a computer and wifi connection.

Women Likely to Have No or Little Retirement Savings.

Again the survey from GoBankingRates research has found that:

• Women are 27% more likely than men to say they have no retirement savings.
• Two-thirds of women (63%) say they have no savings or less than $10,000 in retirement savings, compared with just over half (52%) of men.

Women do not earn as much as men in most cases for different reasons, sometimes, they are not paid equally for the same job done, and women often need to stop working for periods for other reasons; usually, it is to take care of their family.

Women’s retirement savings need to be higher than men’s; it is well noted that a woman’s medical cost tends to be higher in retirement, and women tend to live longer than men and outlive their retirement funds, an increasing possibility.

The survey also found that 28% of seniors 55 and over and over had no savings and depended on social security for their retirement income.

• About 3 in 10 respondents aged 55 and over have no retirement savings.
• 26% report retirement savings of under $50,000, an insufficient amount for people nearing retirement age.
• Over half (54%) of people age 55 and around have balances far behind typical retirement fund benchmarks for their age group.

All these statistics would lead us to believe there is no hope for seniors who have no savings; well, I have no savings for retirement.

But I am not complaining; I have found a way in my senior years to be independent by having a business and making an income to satisfy my basic needs. I have the potential to grow into a very successful business over time.
