You probably have been looking for something online to bring in some extra cash and are not sure if this company Transcribeme is legitimate and would like to know more before you commit to anything.
Well, I have looked into this company, its offers, and the pros and cons of joining it, and I will share them with you in this post.
First of all, let me tell you what transcribe me is:
This is a company that carries out transcription work.
Transcription is listening to an audio file and typing what you hear; When completed, you have a text document with the same content as the audio file.
It sounds pretty simple, but it is much more challenging. It would help if you could deal with accents, people who mumble, background noise, and researching terms you don’t understand.
TranscribeMe offers three different services:
- Transcription – high-quality transcription carried out by humans, people like you
- Speech recognition – machine transcription
- Translation – turn audio into another language
How It Works
Whenever a client submits an audio file to TranscribeMe. The file is split into short microtasks or chunks of 1 or 2 minutes.
These are then made available to the transcriptionists.
Once all the chunks have been transcribed, they are checked by quality assurance and joined together.
Splitting the audio file into small snippets speeds up the process of transcribing. Several transcribers can work simultaneously on the same audio file.
It also makes the work less monotonous and allows for more flexibility in the schedule of the transcriptionist.
Timestamps and speaker IDs are added. Then one final review and the completed file are sent to the client.
TranscribeMe Business Opportunities
You can join the company as a transcriber that converts audio content into text. But there is room for growth.

You can attain several levels once you grow your skills and become proficient in your job.
You can move into QA (Quality Assurance) position, first as an editor and reviewing, then into Lead QA. From these Part- and Full-Time positions, you have the opportunity to advance into a Salaried Position as a Project Manager, Recruiter, or Customer Service.
The entry-level, however, is as a transcriber; you must pass the entry exam. It is said that only 15% of those who take the exam pass.
It may seem easy, but it is not really.
These skills are needed to be hired by Transcribeme:
- a good typing speed
- a good understanding of grammar and spelling
- knowledge of punctuation
The qualities required are:
- being an attentive listener
- able to sit in front of your computer for hours
- wanting to provide quality work with few errors and see where you can improve
- patience
If you have these skills and qualities, transcribing could be a good opportunity for you.
Most transcription companies require these qualities.

An informative online training program will introduce the Transcriptionist Portal and take you through the Style Guide. After you have taken an exam to prove accuracy with transcribing audio and following style guidelines, you’ll be given short chunks of audio to transcribe. You can begin earning and monetizing your downtime!
We pay regularly and securely via PayPal. Keep track of earnings in real-time and know exactly how much has been accumulated. Request payment at any time and receive money in $USD via PayPal for all the work completed weekly.

You will then be able to download the exam instructions, and You can have two attempts at the whole English exam and one retry for each section of the exam.
If you fail the exam after two attempts and retries for each section, you must wait for 30-days before retaking the exam.
After your account has been processed, you will see Jobs you can select in your WorkHub account.
You need to click on the next available job, and it will start to play. You will only be compensated for accurately completed jobs.

How Much Can You Earn?
According to Transcribeme AD., they state that you can earn $15 – $22 per audio hour. When starting, you will make $15 per audio hour.
Average monthly earnings on the platform are $250, and the top earners reportedly earn up to $2,200 per month. You can earn more if you have a background in medical or legal transcriptions.
This sounds great, a lot of us would like this starting out, but I understand it is not as good as it sounds, at least at first.
One hour of audio can take four or five hours to transcribe. You will work for only $4 or $5 per hour!
Here are my thoughts
Transcribe me is a legitimate company; it is not a scam; you can make money, it may not be an amount to be excited about, but you will be paid.
There is also a Wealthy Affiliate where you can work from home, set your schedule, have the potential to earn a passive income, and be your boss.

Found a company unashamed or abashed to take total advantage of people.
Cons
I spent 26+ hours of my time on two audios and received $40 in pay. The pay is per AUDIO hour but the specifications they have can easily take you HOURS to complete per file. This basically a bait-and-switch. You receive all English files – if you chose US English – for the Exams. Once approved, that ends. Now you have foreign speakers and extremely poor audio quality. You spend hours of your time trying to figure out what these people are saying and hours online researching terms. And for what? Why, for $1.57 -$1.66 per hour. If you want a job that takes 200% of your effort and time and pays .07 of a viable pay rate, then this is the company for you.

Cons
Very low pay ($20/audio hour) Jobs don’t come in often. You can stay for days without getting a single job to do. Most jobs come with a horrible audio quality, which might lead to rejection if you do it.
The reviews are a mixed batch some good some bad but the overriding theme seems to be cant make enough money.
If you think this is for you then you can try, it is free, and I do not see anywhere you are on contract.
